METEOROLOGICAL DEPARTMENT CURAÇAO

THURSDAY, JULY 24, 2025, 18:00 L.T.

A CAUTIONARY STATEMENT (CODE YELLOW) FOR ROUGH SEAS IS IN EFFECT FOR NORTHERN AND EASTERN COASTAL SECTIONS OF CURAÇAO

******FORECAST ANALYSIS INDICATES THE DEVELOPMENT OF ROUGH SEA CONDITIONS THAT MAY BE A THREAT TO COASTAL SECTIONS OF CURAÇAO******

CONDITIONS EXPECTED TO LAST FROM THURSDAY, JULY 24, 2025, 18:00 L.T. TILL FRIDAY, JULY 25, 2025, 06:00 L.T.

EXPECTED IMPACT:
  • Swells and/or strong winds will cause coastal waters to be rough;
  • Breakers are likely to damage small craft, if left onshore, close to the water line;
  • Coastal flooding is expected to cause damage to beach facilities.

PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS:
  • Mariners operating small vessels are advised to exercise caution when navigating in these conditions;
  • Since coastal flooding is possible, owners of coastal facilities are urged to protect their property where this is possible;
  • Swimmers are advised to exercise caution and not to venture far from shore.

DEFINITIONS:

A Special Bulletin is issued for weather events that are unusual, cause general inconvenience or public concern (requiring the attention and action of fire department and police authorities) and cannot adequately be described in a regular weather forecast.

A Cautionary Statement for Rough Seas is an announcement when rough sea conditions are possible (probability of 10 to 30%).

The line starting with CONDITIONS EXPECTED TO LAST FROM gives an approximation of the period of the hazardous condition.
